Lessons From the Dance Floor: Loop Recovery In a Hard Season
Session Two didn’t go as planned. I missed more classes than I attended, battled winter blues, wrestled with an unreliable car, and learned—again—that life after 55 can be wonderfully loopy.
But here’s the surprise: even in the missed steps and false starts, dance taught me something essential. Growth isn’t linear, recovery counts as progress, and sometimes the bravest move is simply laughing, regrouping, and stepping back into the rhythm when you can.
Midlife Courage Begins with Putting Yourself Out There
Week Three is about the quiet, powerful courage of putting yourself out there after 55 — even when you’re tired, guilty, uninspired, or afraid of falling behind. It’s about recognizing that: motion creates emotion; showing up builds confidence; small bravery is still bravery; community lifts us unexpectedly; joy returns when we step toward it. Midlife metamorphosis is real, and it often starts with this simple act: Get in the car and go.
Emerging From the Chrysalyss: A Midlife Metamorphosis
There are seasons in midlife when we don’t feel like we’re blooming — we feel like we’re cocooning. Quiet. Inward. Gathering strength before our next becoming. I call this the Chrysalyss, the sacred pause before a midlife metamorphosis begins.
Returning to dance wasn’t just movement — it was emergence. A reminder that growth after 55 is not dramatic or rushed. It's tender. Intentional. Courageous in the softest, strongest ways.
